Description

From 2007 to 2022, mycologists of the Greater Zürich Area have met once a year in a one-day symposium termed 'Zürich Mycology Symposium'. The goal of the symposium was the scientific exchange and the networking among this community and the location and the organizers of the symposium alternated between the participating institutions i.e. ETH Zürich, University of Zürich, Agroscope Reckenholz, Agroscope Wädenswil and WSL Birmensdorf. Upon the strong interest and engagement of mycologists from institutions outside of the area, i.e. the University of Neuchatel, the symposium was renamed to 'Swiss Mycology Symposium' in 2022 and is now open to all interested Swiss mycologists. Beginning 2023, the symposium will take place at the participating institutions (including University of Neuchatel - other locations are considered and suggestions are welcome) in years with a 2-day annual meeting of the Swiss Society of Microbiology (SSM) or as a satellite symposium (on the first day) in years with a 3-day annual meeting of the SSM. In this way, we hope to foster the scientific exchange and the networking between Swiss mycologists with special emphasis on the promotion of the scientific carreers of young colleagues in order to keep the research on these fascinating organisms alive in Switzerland.
